How to get there using GoogleMaps

Take oe of the following trams: 1, 2 or 3, get off at Taubenmarkt.
A five-minute walk takes you to the State Gallery in Linz. Sufficient parking space is a available in the area surrounding the museum car park. The museum itself is handicapped accessible (entrance and lift at the back of the building).

"Kulturtarif" is a special scale of parking fees for visitors of the museum:

additional half-hours € 0,30 each

When visiting the museum between 6:00 pm and 1:00 am, the parking fee is EUR 3.00.

By car

From Vienna or Salzburg: Leave the motorway at the junction Linz – continue on the A7 towards Freistadt – leave the A7 at the exit Hafenstraße/Untere Donaulände – turn right and continue along Hafenstraße and Untere Donaulände – keep straight on and cross Nibelungenbrücke by going underneath it (Obere Donaulände) – at the second set of traffic lights after the bridge turn left into the Römerberg tunnel – turn left at the first set of traffic lights into Klammstraße – turn left at the first street into Promenade – turn left into the street leading up to the Castle Museum – turn right to arrive in the grounds of the Castle (parking available).

Get off the train at Hauptbahnhof Linz [Linz Main Railway Station] – take a tram towards the city centre (Lines 1, 2 and 3) – get off the tram at the stop Hauptplatz – turn into Hofgasse (to the left of Oberbank) – continue straight on up the stairs to the Castle Museum.

By bike

From Hauptplatz turn into Hofgasse (to the left of Oberbank) – turn left into the first street on the left (Hahnengasse) – continue to Alter Markt – continue bearing to the left past the Market Hall to Tummelplatz – follow the ramp to the Castle Museum.

By train and tram

Get off the train at Hauptbahnhof Linz [Linz Main Railway Station] – take a tram to the University (Lines 1 and 2) – get off at the stop Dornach – continue along Johann Wilhelm Klein Straße towards the left – turn left opposite the Penny supermarket – continue to No 73.

By bike

Leave the Donaulände on the Urfahr side and follow the McDonalds sign – cycle path approx. 500m to a shrine – turn right – cycle path as far as Johann Wilhelm Klein Straße – turn left – turn left opposite the Penny supermarket – continue to No 73.

By car

From Linz: follow the A7 towards Freistadt – follow the trunk road through Unterweitersdorf and past Neumarkt to Freistadt – leave the bypass and follow the sign to Altstadt. Parking available on the Main Square (parking fee payable on weekdays) or at the Böhmertor. From there approx. 50 meters on a footpath to Freistadt Castle, which houses the museum.

From Passau: via Linz and the A7 or on the trunk road via Freyung, Rohrbach, Bad Leonfelden to Freistadt.

From Vienna: follow the A1 to Mauthausen – via Pregarten and Neumarkt to Freistadt.

From Praha: via Ceské Budejovice (Budweis), Kaplice (Kaplitz), Wullowitz and Rainbach to Freistadt.

By train

Take the Summerauerbahn to Freistadt Railway Station – take the Citybus (Note: not every train is met by a Citybus) or a taxi to Freistadt (distance approx. 3 km)

By post bus

The post bus to Freistadt takes you to Böhmertor, which is only a short walk from the museum.

The Customs and Financial History Collection is accommodated on the premises of the finance office in Urfahr (Kaarstraße).

By foot

From Hauptplatz (main square) 3 stops by streetcar line 3 to Kaarstraße stop or by foot from Hauptplatz via the Nibelungen bridge straight ahead into Urfahraner Hauptstraße (Urfahr main street), turn left at the next crossing to the Finanzamt (finance office, across from Mühlkreis train station) or to the Finanzlandesdirektion (provincial finance director, Zollamtstraße)

From Hauptplatz via Rathausgasse, after 150 m turn left into Neutorgasse, after 100 m turn right into Zollamtstraße, 30 m to main gate of the Finanzlandesdirektion. The exhibit rooms can only be visited on appointment!
