By this communicative sign we understand all aspects of our professional museum work, from "collecting and preserving", through intensive research work, to our comprehensive mediation activities.

Collectively, museums as institutions have gone through striking changes in the past years. Their range of tasks, their overall appearance, as well as their position in society have evolved and transformed in and by intensive discussion processes - with everything that goes with them.

The Upper Austrian State Museums, founded in 1833 already as one of the oldest comprehensive museums - not only Austria, have remained faithful to their founding mission in a continually updated form and are committed to a cumulative outlook on art, culture and nature: In the sense of the classical museum activities "collecting, preserving, researching, mediating", we look at varied areas of research and fields of work from Upper Austria into the world - and we talk about it.

We see the social relevance of the institution of the museum in our various possibilities of seeking out cultural potential, of networking, and of using communicative, interdisciplinary and integrative approaches. Therefore, we always strive for new ways of co-operation among art, culture, science, business, religion and society for the cultural development of the province of Upper Austria.
